Remember, your website is not a brochure. Let’s look at how you can audit your own website this week. And this is going to be a fun one for you, and it doesn’t take very long. But here’s how you find your holes:
Pull up your website on your phone. Time yourself finding your phone number. Count how many clicks it takes to reach a way to contact you. Look at your forms. Count all the fields on your contact forms. Check the load time on your website.
Pull up your competitor’s website, somebody that’s beating you on Google in the organic and map sections, right? Pair your site against theirs. That’s a really easy metric. And then take a look at their site, right? Look at your homepage and ask yourself really honestly, does this tell a stressed-out visitor exactly what to do? Does it just tell them about you?
None of this requires a full website rebuild in some cases to start fixing little things here and there. Small changes will compound over time. Moving your phone number above the fold is a very easy fix, making sure it’s clickable. Cutting your contact form maybe to three fields: name, phone number, and, you know, if they want to leave a message, and don’t make the message part required. Making sure you have a way to check those forms constantly, right? You got big thing: make sure somebody’s answering the phone 24/7.
If you talk the talk, you got to walk the walk. And that goes with your contact form. Some people don’t fill out or don’t click your phone number, you know, they’ll fill out a contact form, and make sure you have a way to check that. I cannot tell you how many websites, you know, they’re set up perfectly, nobody’s checking the email for the contact form. So, make sure you’re getting all of that.
