If you missed the podcast episode with Doug Weatherman where we talk about how AI is hindering the Restoration Industry, You’re going to want to go back and check it out!
Doug gave us a ton of information about what’s going on, why its alarming, and what Restorers like you can do about it.
Here’s another clip from that incredible conversation about the Third Party Reviewers that I’m sure you all have been dealing with pretty regularly. Are you paying attention to what’s going on out there? Let us know, we would love to open up a conversation about it with you guys!
Ben: Outside of transparency, while as we kind of get towards the tail end of this, what is something that, you know, something else that Restorers, that’s actionable that we can take control of right now besides maybe getting involved in some, you know, groups or legislation, or getting involved in what you’re doing to try to make this work?
Doug: All of the above. And talk to your local contractors. Talk to everybody in your market. Make sure everybody is paying attention. That’s gonna be the key here is to make sure that everyone’s watching around them and seeing what’s happening. Another big thing that we definitely need to pay attention to is the Third Party Reviews.
Third Party Review Companies, I’m not gonna sit here and spit names out all day, but there’s Third Party Review companies out there that we all know about, that we all deal with all the time. These systems are now a large proponent and user of Artificial Intelligence. It is allowing them to have less and less human people at the desks.
That is exactly what their business model requires for maximum profitability. Okay? The Third Party Review firms still don’t have any legal authority. They, you know what I mean? They’re not, they have no authority over your contractor pricing, 9 times outta 10. They’re not Adjusters in any way, shape or form. They are now using AI to reject line items arbitrarily.
None of ’em have ever seen your site, but they’re telling you that you didn’t need to do this thing that you said you needed to do and charge for. The role is purely about cost containment, not fair assessment. It is a 100% based on that. We have to be, as an industry cognizant of the fact that if we let the AI third party systems beat us, then we are justifying their existence to the carriers.
That’s gonna be a big, big, big thing. These things are mostly robots now. You’re not even getting a human being there. The human deploys, the robot analyzes the return and that’s literally it. They don’t do anything at these third party companies anymore besides contain costs. And that’s how they sell themselves to carriers is by going in there and saying, we can contain costs and this is our Artificial Intelligence system that helps us do it at a higher and more efficient rate.
You know what I mean? That’s gonna be a big deal. Arguing with those things on anything other than policy language and justified fact is going to be adverse. And tho those tools don’t have to play by any laws. They don’t have to play by any policy. They don’t care if you make an issue with them to the state. If you make a complaint about them, the state insurance port, they don’t care. Nobody at the state insurance board cares about them either. They’re a third party. Those get dicey. That’s gonna be another big thing that we’re gonna see, for sure.
