So you’re a Restoration Company with 400 Google reviews, but you’re still losing the job to a competitor with 12.
Our COO John “JC” Cariaso explains why review count means almost nothing without consistency.
Ben: I think the one thing that sticks out to me the most, and I think you’re going to agree here, is Google reviews—the review consistency issue. So, you know, we see that no matter what the size of the company, no matter what the size of the market—and we’re going to dig into this a little bit here. I wanted you just to walk me through that review consistency problem that you’re seeing.
Especially because, like, you know, the perfect example: “Hey, we have 400 Google reviews and we’re getting beat by somebody that’s got 12.” You see that all the time. So, why does a company with a couple hundred reviews still lose to Google versus these guys that have like the 12? What are you seeing there?
JC: So, as far as the best analogy, look at Amazon. You know, you could have the exact same product. One of them has 1,000 reviews and is maybe, say, 100 bucks, and the other product is, you know, 25% cheaper—75 bucks—and they have only 50 reviews. You know, obviously there’s a vetting process, but it’s the same with Google. You know, it’s: what have you done for me lately? And one of the strategy sessions I just had, just yesterday, I was like, “Dude, it’s like your last… you had one review a month ago, but prior to that was a year ago.” So, and to him it’s, you know, it was like, “Yeah, we, you know…”
Here, walk me through what’s the process you ask as far as your customers. And, you know, it was like they’re winging it. And you know, it’s, I was like, listen, it’s like not only do you have to focus on Google reviews now—you know, and now we have to start telling our clients because of the AI visibility, they have to get Yelp reviews, which I’m not a big fan of, but it is what it is, you know.
Yeah, like, well, everybody thought those are for restaurants, and…
But now because ChatGPT has a partnership with Yelp, so now you have to get into that and, you know, Facebook reviews, BBB. So it’s just, you know, it’s hard enough now to ask them to get Google reviews, now you have to start asking these other channels. And it’s just, you know, it’s just getting crazier and crazier as far as… but these are the new rules.
