Here’s a clip from our recent Restoration Rundown podcast with Gokul Padmanabhan (Restoration Brokers of America) where he talks about looking at your restoration business from an investors point of view. If you are looking to “exit” your business one day you have to get your ducks in a row.

“Highest level of it is becoming an investor. And when you start looking at your business as an investor, whether it’s a small business or a big business, everything on how you look at it changes. And you put the right KPIs in place and the business starts to grow, right? So one of the big reasons, private equity, there’s a lot of action on private equity.

A lot of people say good things, bad things, I’m, I’m not judging. But here’s what I’m trying to say. The reason private equity can take a company that’s 30 years old and take it, put it on a rocket ship, is they got a seven year horizon, most of them. Correct? So with a seven year horizon, they look at it as an investment and they gotta say, within seven years, I’ve gotta achieve certain ROIs or whatever their benchmarks are to be able to then unload it and then cash in for their investors. So that compressed timeframe and an exit that’s coming up in four to seven years, brings everything in clarity.”
